What led to the introduction of the service?

In the past, the client had to recreate a similar module each time they started new in-vehicle system development, which cost a lot of time and money. So they reached out to us to develop a system with a field-programmable gate array (FPGA), expecting it to shorten the development process and increase development efficiency through modularization.

Issues before introduction

Conventionally, the process of estimating the direction of arrival of radio waves used to be done with a MATLAB script, but the software execution was slow and the client wanted to speed up the process by integrating the algorithm into hardware. In addition, as more AI-equipped in-vehicle systems arrive on the market, the client considered developing products that incorporated edge AI. Considering these points, they selected FPGAs, which can support edge AI and IoT, and are becoming increasingly lower in cost and higher in performance.

Examples of use after introduction

Our development using FPGAs enabled the client to increase the processing speed of in-vehicle systems to 1,000 times that of before. We also studied alternatives for parts that were nearing the end of their production life during the concept phase for the client, which made the best of FPGAs' flexibility. We have also started providing the client with support for developing in-vehicle systems that incorporate deep learning.

Effectiveness and achieved results

By modularizing the FPGS, the development process has been shortened while the processing speed of the in-vehicle system has improved. The client was also able to successfully resolve their task of strengthening their technical capabilities in the field of edge AI.
