Real Driving Emissions (RDE) testing service
What led to the introduction of the service?
The mandatory introduction of on-road emissions testing was announced in 2018. The introduction made it mandatory for new models of diesel cars to comply with the tests from October 1, 2022 onward and continuing production vehicles sequentially from October 1, 2024. Therefore, the client had to look into how to comply with the revised laws and regulations, including the installation of a Portable Emission Measurement System (PEMS) in their vehicles.
Issues before introduction
The client did not have Road Driving Emissions (RDE) test equipment and lacked the knowledge to design driving routes for test planning. For this reason, they looked for a one-stop service that could handle everything from mounting the test equipment to conducting the vehicle running tests.
Examples of use after introduction
Our RDE test service provided total support for all the processes required for RDE testing, from installation of the PEMS on the vehicle, planning and verification of the driving route, to measurement and analysis of the actual driving data. In addition, as our person in charge verified the driving route in advance, the client was able to obtain accurate driving data that took into account the effects of actual road conditions.

Vehicle installation of the measurement equipment
● PEMS:
・Exhaust gas measurement
Nitrogen oxides (NOx), Carbon monoxide (CO), Carbon dioxide (CO2), Total hydrocarbons (THC)
・Particle number (PN) measurement of particulate matter

Both the road driving test and the test on the chassis dynamo installed in the test room are driven by the same skilled driver. As a result, it is possible to acquire highly accurate comparison data that eliminates "variation" due to the driver.
Real-time analysis software
● You can grasp the running condition in real time.
● Achieve a high success rate because the driving method can be adjusted according to the situation.
● Since it is software developed in-house, it can be freely customized according to the test.
The same driver will carry out the chassis dynamometer test and the RDE test.
As a result, the influence of different drivers on the test results can be reduced.
Correlation of measurement results between the stationary exhaust gas analyzer and PEMS can be confirmed.
Effectiveness and achieved results
We plan to contribute to the reduction of evaluation environment preparation costs for our customers by using our RDE test service in order to comply with the on-road driving emission test that is about to become mandatory.
