ADAS Contract Testing Services Launched by PERSOL RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
– Support for the Development of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems with Vehicle Tests and High-Precision Measurement by RTK –
PERSOL RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Co., Ltd., which is involved in the technical engineering business in a PERSOL group offering comprehensive human resource services (Headquarters: 3-18-1, Sakae, Naka-ku, Nagoya-shi, Aichi Japan, President and Representative Director Eiji Isoda, hereinafter referred to as "PERSOL R&D") has started ADAS Contract Testing Services that provide test contents according to the customer’s request by using a high-precision positioning system for vehicles equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The services include driving condition setting in accordance with various vehicle tests and safety standards, understanding vehicle behavior based on data that synchronizes positioning with Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) and sensor signals, and functional evaluation tests.
■Background: While ADAS become more widespread and sophisticated, challenges in testing become apparent
Many driving assistance technologies have been put into practice as ADAS development has progressed at various automobile and parts manufacturers in order to prevent traffic accidents and reduce the burden on drivers. Typical examples of ADAS are the Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS) and the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) that maintains a safe distance from vehicles in front of it. However in recent years the system has become more diversified and sophisticated.
On the other hand, because there are differences in system names, sensing and control methods among automobile manufacturers, it is difficult to make comparisons based on the same criteria. Hence there is increasing demand for side by side performance comparisons. There is a growing demand for services to measure and evaluate vehicle‘s detection, judgement, control, and behavior, in addition to conducting tests in accordance with established methods and safety standards.

- High-precision positioning system using RTK measurement method
We comprehensively measure by sensing and evaluate data such as the positional relationship between the controlled vehicle and objects and the vehicle speed. It is possible to know with high accuracy the vehicle's position in real time within 2 cm every 0.01 seconds utilizing the signals of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)1 and fixed observation points by using the RTK measurement method.

- Testing Contents Can Be Arranged
We also have experimenting skills that faithfully reproduce the prescribed test method. We can flexibly arrange tests according to customer requests by utilizing test courses and a chassis dynamometer in addition to driving on public roads.
■Main ADAS Contract Testing Services
- Advanced Emergency Braking System Testing
1) In Japan, security standards have been partially revised, and AEBS will be required to be installed in new vehicles starting November 2021.2 In accordance with this safety standard, we will test against stationary vehicles, running vehicles, and pedestrians to see if they meet the prescribed requirements.

2) Japan New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP) differs from other countries’ NCAP because each country’s program varies. The preventive safety performance evaluation also stipulates evaluation related to AEBS, and tests are conducted according to evaluation criteria such as the presence or absence of streetlights at night with pedestrians.
In each test, we can evaluate vehicle behavior as well as slight differences in recognition and control of various sensors with RTK measurement, video, and monitoring that combines various data.
- Steering Device Testing
A test standard applied to automobiles equipped with Automatically Commanded Steering Function (ACSF) must meet the requirements of the category from A to E, including corrected steering to prevent lane departure and lane keep assist to maintain the lane while holding the steering wheel.
Besides each requirement, we set up tests assuming a wide variety of situations, and carry out driving, measurement and functional confirmation.
- Other ADAS Function Evaluations
In addition to the above, we will also check the functions of various ADAS such as ACC and evaluate the driving. As an example, we can conduct confirmation tests of sensor recognition and control for Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) taking advantage of RTK measurement. BSM detects the vehicles at the left, right, and back that are likely to be blind spots and notifies the driver of the info to assist in safe lane changes.
Currently, the development speed of each automobile manufacturer is accelerating, and new technologies are being developed one after another. We will continue to support the development of new ADAS technologies and contribute to the development of safer automobiles while devising various tests and measurement methods in order to respond to revisions of regulations and test methods.
