Implementation of investigation on alerting wheel drop accidents of large vehicles
Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) has been implementing Campaign to Prevent Wheel Dropouts of Large Vehicles since November 1, 2020 aiming for zero accidents in light of an increase of wheel dropout accidents due to broken wheels and bolts of large vehicles.
As part of the campaign, MLIT has released a video to raise awareness that the wheel dropouts of large vehicles may lead to fatal accidents.

PERSOL RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT was entrusted by MLIT with the implementation of the verification experiment to investigate the effects when a fallen tire collides with the human body as a "investigation on alerting wheel drop accidents of large vehicles".
Our investigation has verified the fear of wheel drop accidents and clarified the importance of daily inspections.
Outline of verification experiment
- Planning for the contracted research work and proposing the verification experiments.
- Quantitative evaluation by calculation methods of human injury level due to collision with a tire.
- The period from planning/examination to video delivery: about 2 months.
