PERSOL RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT and IROC Launched Joint Development of Driving Simulator for Truck Driving Training

– Realizing VR-Based Training for Enhancing the Driving Skills of Truck Drivers –

PERSOL RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Co., Ltd., which is involved in the technical engineering business in a PERSOL group offering comprehensive human resource services (Headquarters: 3-18-1, Sakae, Naka-ku, Nagoya-shi, Aichi Japan, President and Representative Director Eiji Isoda, hereinafter referred to as "PERSOL R&D"), and IROC Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: 2-350, Fukuike, Tenpaku-ku, Nagoya-shi, Japan, President Takuma Koga, hereinafter referred to as "IROC") agreed to jointly develop a new Virtual Reality (hereinafter referred to as "VR") driving simulator for truck driving training.
A prototype of this simulator is scheduled to be displayed at "CONTENT TOKYO" to be held on October 21 – 23.

■Issues in Truck Driving Training
Truck transportation is a major means of transportation which accounts for more than 90 %*1 of all transportation in Japan, and its importance is increasing through a change in people’s living patterns due to the recent COVID-19 catastrophe. The securing of truck drivers as well as the safe driving of trucks are important tasks for ensuring stable logistics, and the enrichment of safety education for drivers is strongly needed.

On the other hand, trucks require not only safe performance but also high driving skills due to their large vehicle body and heavy weight. Although it is necessary to gain driving experience in a wide variety of environments and driving conditions in order to enhance the driver’s driving skill and safety awareness, it is not easy to obtain such experience using real trucks in the short term. In addition, it is becoming difficult to conduct training on a real truck with an experienced driver aboard, considering the necessity of maintaining social distance in the COVID-19 catastrophe.

■Outline of Joint Development
Under the above circumstances, PERSOL R&D, which has a wealth of knowledge about and experience in the development of commercial vehicles, and IROC, the manufacturer of "T3R" which has a reputation for superior behavior and reality, agreed to jointly develop a VR driving simulator which is focused on driving training for truck drivers and enabling the ability to have a realistic driving experience without using a real truck.

"T3R" VR Driving Simulator Pursuing "Ultimate Reality"

"T3R", manufactured by IROC, is used not only as an experience-based simulator but also in development applications such as the evaluation of automated driving and man machine interface, because of its faithful reproduction of behavior achieved by a combination of 3D floating full-motion technology and the experiences of professional racing drivers.

In addition, PERSOL R&D offers engineering services in a wide range of fields as a group of engineers focused on design and development. Moreover, it has a wealth of knowledge about vehicle development, and in particular has consistent development technology for commercial vehicles from the design stage to carrying out comprehensive vehicle testing around a test course.

Through the new combination of IROC’s 3D floating full-motion technology and PERSOL R&D’s knowledge about commercial vehicle development, IROC and PERSOL R&D will enhance the quality of safe driving education for truck drivers who support logistics in Japan and contribute to the improvement of drivers’ skills by enabling the reproduction of a wide variety of truck driving scenarios.
