Proposal of testing service using a chassis dynamometer


What led to the introduction of the service?

By using a chassis dynamometer, it is possible to test vehicles under conditions similar to those of actual driving. A chassis dynamometer is a method of testing power performance, fuel efficiency, durability, and more by running automobiles such as passenger cars and trucks on rollers installed under the floor of a test chamber. Unlike tests on public roads, a range of conditions can be reproduced using chassis dynamometers, allowing for various measurements of HC, NOx, CO2, as well as comparisons of engine performance and more.

Issues before introduction

Consideration for environmental issues, such as carbon neutrality which effectively reduces CO2 emissions to zero, is also required in the development of automobiles. Vehicle testing using a chassis dynamometer is effective in improving fuel efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions to achieve carbon neutrality.

Examples of use after introduction

With their chassis dynamometer testing service, fuel efficiency tests, exhaust gas tests, and CO2 measurements in each mode of operation were possible. Also, in the development of electric vehicles (xEV), the service allowed us to measure the power consumption rate (electric mileage) and the temperature of each part of the vehicle according to driving conditions. In addition, we were able to create a flexible test design, such as all-conditions continuous driving tests and measurement of electronically controlled data, which we couldn't have done without a chassis dynamometer.

What is a chassis dynamometer?
A chassis dynamometer is a treadmill, which has rollers installed under the floor of a test chamber, for automobiles such as passenger cars and trucks. It can test power performance, fuel efficiency, durability, and more in an environment as close to real driving conditions as possible. As chassis dynamometers allow vehicles to drive under specific conditions, they are often used for various measurements and performance comparisons.


●Using an emission gas analyzer, the total amount of CO, HC, NOx, and CO2 emitted from the exhaust pipe and the amount of fuel consumption of the vehicle running under the test mode set by the government can be measured. It is also possible to make an electric vehicle (EV) run, and measure the distance traveled on a single charge and the amount of power consumption.
●In combination with our PEMS, it is also possible to reproduce public road driving on a chassis dynamometer.

Flow of the testing service

◇We provide full support that includes planning of the experiment, arranging the engines (vehicles), measuring the data, and analyzing the results.
◇We can be contracted for entire or partial process—whichever meets your needs.
◇We can also provide consulting support for engine operation and data measurement.

●We provide project management for a series of tasks from discussion of test requirements to report writing.

●According to the test content, we select and prepare the most suitable test site and measurement equipment/methods (in-house or external resources).

●We can handle all aspects of the project, beginning with arranging the vehicles.

●Tests can be conducted under optional conditions similar to those of ordinary roads, regardless of weather conditions or time.

●The test can be performed under optional conditions (reproduced by the operator or driver).

●We can handle the preparation of various measuring equipment, as well as the fabrication of equipment and the processing of vehicles and parts to meet test requirements.
